China Consortium Plans To Build Cameroon Bus

YAOUNDE, Cameroon -(Dow Jones)-

China General Technology Group Holding Ltd. and China Machinery Company are in talks with top Cameroon government officials and private investors to build the first-ever bus and tractor assembly plant in the African nation.

“We met the Prime Minister to discuss and get the government’s support for the assembly plant for buses and tractors in Bamenda. These buses will be used here in Cameroon and in future we intend the export the merchandise to neighboring Nigeria and other countries in West and Central Africa,” Awanga told reporters after meeting with the premier.

The China-Cameroon delegation is scheduled to travel to the North-West Region’s capital, Bamenda, where the auto plant would be built. Bamenda is located some 450 kilometers northwest of Yaounde.
